The Dream by Henri Rousseau was painted by the artist in 1910. He did many Jungle paintings but never set foot out of France. He would get his inspiration from the Paris Zoo and the Jardin des plantes which was part zoo and part botanical garden. The Nude model is mixing a scene from exotic plants and animals which is part of the dream while she is lying on a sofa which would be truly a domestic item. Rousseau was a self-taught painter and Surrealists and Post Expressionists liked his work. In The Dream he used over 22 different colors of Green.
